Air Fryer Hot Dogs with mustard and ketchup

The air fryer is an amazing tool because it can mimic a deep fryer or oven. This opens up all kinds of culinary possibilities. In the case of hot dogs in the air fryer, you can get perfectly cooked hot dogs with a crisper skin in less time than it would take to boil a hot dog.

Perfect for barbeques, they are also great for a quick meal any time of year. You can serve them, along with air fryer burgers and French fries, with your favorite toppings like quick pickled jalapeno peppers, diced pickles, or sauerkraut. One of our favorites is to make chili cheese dogs with extra onion.

The best part is they will pair well with any side dish you wish from chips to baked beans.

How To Air Fry Hot Dogs

Here’s how to use your air fryer to make the best tasting air fryer hot dogs.

Step 1 – Preheat – Start by preheating the air fryer to 400 degrees F for 5 minutes.

Step 2 – Prepare the dogs – As it heats, remove your hot dogs from their packaging and lightly pat off any moisture with a paper towel. Next, use a sharp knife to cut 4 shallow slits diagonally across the top of each hot dog.

Step 3 – Fry the dogs When the dogs and air fryer are ready, place the hot dogs inside the air fryer basket in a single layer with a little space between each dog. Cook the dogs for  6 to 8 minutes. How long you cook them depends on how well done you like them. For frozen dogs, you’ll need to cook them for about 10 minutes or until heated through.

Step 4 – Warm your buns (optional) – To warm your buns slightly, remove the hot dogs at 6 minutes and then place the dogs in the buns and place them back in the basket. It is ok if they touch. Continue cooking for 2 minutes.

Step 5 – Remove and dress – Remove from the air fryer, add your toppings, and enjoy.

Can You Use Frozen Hot Dogs?

Yes! You can thaw them first in the refrigerator and then cook for 6 to 8 minutes, or you can cook them frozen for 10 minutes or until they have fully heated through.

Is It Better to Air Fry or Grill Hot Dogs?

In my opinion, you just can’t beat a grilled hot dog but an air fried hot dog is a great alternative for those times you just don’t have time to fire up the grill.

The air fryer lets you make a quick and meal for your family. In just 6 to 8 minutes you can have your meal ready to go and with a super quick and easy clean up, it makes for a great every day way to cook your hotdogs.
